UC Irvine’s New Hospital Redefines Sustainable Healthcare

In December, UCI Health welcomed its first patients to the nation's first all-electric acute care hospital located in Irvine. As Orange County's only academic health system, the facility combines world-class medicine with sustainable innovation, featuring 100% renewable energy, a surgical "megafloor" with 15 operating rooms, and a 24-hour emergency department with AI-enabled imaging. The hospital prioritizes whole-person healing through nature-integrated designs with marsh views, healing gardens, and culturally attuned menus, closing a critical gap in access to academic medicine for Orange County residents while setting a new national standard for sustainable, compassionate healthcare.
