UC Irvine’s School of Social Ecology Celebrated 3rd Annual Dia De Los Muertos
UC Irvine's School of Social Ecology hosted its 3rd Annual Dia de Los Muertos celebration, drawing over 1,500+ attendees including students, families, community partners, staff and faculty to honor this cherished tradition. Dia de Los Muertos is a meaningful celebration that honors the memory of loved ones who have passed while serving as a reminder to live fully and celebrate life's journey. The Irvine Barclay Theatre was illuminated with vibrant altars, traditional offerings, and cultural activities that brought the tradition to life. Newly appointed Mexican Consul Maxaira Baltazar delivered powerful remarks highlighting “how culture can transcend borders and bring communities together in mutual respect and understanding.” The event was generously sponsored by UC Irvine Foundation Trustee and Alliance member Oscar Gonzalez, Co-President of Northgate Gonzalez Markets, who shared inspiring words with students: “It's really a celebration of our roots... [be] proud of who [you] are... Honor your wings,” underscoring the School of Social Ecology's commitment to celebrating diversity and cultural traditions within the UC Irvine community.
