Global Partnerships Drive Innovation and Cross-Border Progress
In an increasingly interconnected world, the need for collaboration is essential and the partnership between UC Irvine and Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo (UAEH) illustrates how strategic international partnerships create far reaching educational and research opportunities that benefit the global scientific community. On August 29, 2025, UC Irvine's Samueli School of Engineering Dean Magnus Egerstedt was named an International Honorary Professor at Mexico's Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo for his leadership in the remote environmental monitoring, robotics, and control theory space.
The partnership began last October and has already led to the establishment of joint research projects through the use of the Robotarium. This collaboration is part of UC Irvine's broader commitment to global partnerships through the Mexico Graduate Research Education Program (MGREP), which has connected 15 universities across both countries for nearly a decade. As MGREP Director Luisa Kregel notes, these partnerships serve as "catalysts for present and future collaborations," demonstrating how academic leadership translates into innovations that drive social and economic progress across borders.
